Does anyone remember Gus Saunder's Yankee Kitchen food show on the old WCOP 1150 AM radio, Boston? I have special memories of this entertaining, low-key show and getting to visit Gus with family at the former Rib Room at the Hotel Sonesta in Cambridge -- that's where he broadcast from live. Gus treated everyone like a beloved family member and his gentle style and overall civility is something we often see missing in a much more fast-paced, me-first world.
By the way, I think this was the intro song to the show, Bert Kaempfert's "That Happy Feeling" -- just listening to this song brings a big smile:
Nostalgic Boston memories of a simpler time including favorite restaurants no longer there, retro family road trips, travel attractions, TV and radio personalities and special hometown reflections. Also featuring old school Boston businesses still thriving today!

Eric - Thank you for writing this wonderful blog. I'm a fellow Old School Boston-ite apparently. I write a blog called the Yankee Kitchen Connection reminiscing about the Yankee Kitchen Show with Gus Saunders. I mourned the loss of Gus's wonderful show for years. He was such a gentleman and treated each caller with respect. I've connected with a few listeners and helped them find some long-lost recipes. I listened during the 70's and 80's when he was broadcasting from the Copley Plaza Hotel and his theme song was "Hey good lookin', what you got cookin..." on WROL. If you scroll through to the very first post on my blog, you'll read what prompted me to start the blog. So good to find you! Anita ykconnection.blogspot.com . Reach me at ykconnection@gmail.com
